Caldecott
Award The Caldecott Medal was
named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It
is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children to the artist of the most
distinguished American picture book for children. Here is a

Coretta
Scott King Award This annual award encourages artistic expression of the
African American experience.
Grand Canyon Reader Award
(Intermediate) Every
year children in Arizona give an award to a recently published picture
book, chapter book and a middle school/YA book.

Newbery
Award The Newbery Medal was
named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded
annually by the Association for Library Service to Children to the author of the most distinguished

Pura
Belpré Award This award is "presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator
whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural
experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and
youth."
Orbis Pictus Award The National Council of Teachers of English established
the Orbis Pictus Award to promote and recognize excellence in the writing of
nonfiction for children.
Scott O'Dell Award The Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction was
established in 1982. The annual award goes to a meritorious book published in
the previous year for children or young adults.
