Catalog and Databases Technical Help

This page will help when you are having trouble logging in to our Article & Information Databases

The City of Mesa Library purchases subscriptions to a wide variety of online databases for your use as a cardholder. All of these databases can be used from any Internet workstation inside the Library.

Some of these databases are available to our users over the Internet. To use these databases from outside the Library--using a computer at your home, work, school, or elsewhere--you will need a City of Mesa Library card and PIN. If you do not have a PIN, please click here for information on getting a PIN

Trouble opening a database or logging in?

Sometimes our users can get into one database, but not another.

When your log in is successful, you will not need to log in a second time after you select a database.

If you are having trouble logging in or you get a second log in screen after you click on a database link to open it, there is most likely a quick fix. Try this first:

Do you have Norton Internet Security, Norton Personal Firewall or Norton Antivirus?

If you do not have Norton, please click here and select the browser you are using for more information. If you have Norton, please read this information:

Norton Internet Security may impede access to our online catalog and Articles & Information databases. Unfortunately, many computer applications that have compatibility issues with each other.

The setting that we have found that blocks access to our databases is called Browser Privacy. Browser Privacy prevents Web sites from finding out which Web site you last visited. For our log in system to work, the browser must be able to tell the log in system which Web site you last visited. When Browser Privacy is enabled, this is impossible.

If you disable this feature while you use our databases, you should not have any access problems.

Here is how to disable and enable Browser Privacy.

Disabling Browser Privacy
1. On the left side of the Norton Internet Security window, click Privacy Control.
2. Click the Settings For arrow and select the account that you want to change.
3. Click Custom Level.
4. In the Customize Privacy Settings dialog box, un-check the box that says Enable Browser Privacy.
