Transferring a downloadable MP3 audiobook to
your iPod or MP3 Player
MP3 audiobooks can be transferred to the iPod,
iPhone, and iPod Touch, as well as most MP3 devices.
To transfer MP3s to your portable device you must
have the OverDrive Media Console Version 3 loaded on
your computer. Version 3 is available free at the
Greater Phoenix Digital Library. To transfer to your
portable device, simply use the Transfer Wizard in
the OverDrive Media Console. To complete the
transfer, make sure you have successfully downloaded
an MP3 audiobook to your PC and have plugged in your
iPod or MP3 player. Open the OverDrive Media
Console, highlight the item you which to transfer,
and click on “Transfer” in the upper left hand
corner of the OverDrive Media Console. The Transfer
Wizard will then guide you through the steps.
Transferring a downloadable MP3 audiobook to
your iPod Shuffle
Downloadable MP3s can be transferred to your iPod Shuffle, but you must
use iTunes to complete the transfer rather than the
OverDrive Media Console Transfer Wizard.
Transfering a downloadable MP3 audiobook to
your Zune Player
Thank you for your question about downloadable MP3
audiobooks available from the Greater Phoenix
Digital Library. Downloadable MP3s can be
transferred to your Zune, but you must use the Zune
Marketplace to complete the transfer rather than the
OverDrive Media Console Transfer Wizard.
Can I download MP3 audiobooks to my Mac?
Unfortunately, this is not possible yet. However,
OverDrive is completing a new version of the
OverDrive Media Console for the Macintosh computer
and hopes to have this available by the end of 2008.
Why aren’t all titles available in MP3 format?
The reason that only a limited number of titles are
available in MP3 format is because the format is at
the discretion of the publisher. Currently, only a
limited number of audiobook publishers have agreed
to release items in the downloadable MP3 format. We
hope that as this program grows, more publishers
will agree to release their materials in the
downloadable MP3 format.
Why is there a shorter checkout period for
downloadable audiobooks in the Greater Phoenix
Digital Library?
In the interest of faster turnaround times and
shorter waiting periods for items on holds, the
Greater Phoenix Digital Library, a consortium of 10
library systems in Central Arizona, decided to
reduce the checkout period for all formats of
downloadable audiobooks to 14 days. We hope that
this will help you to get your items on hold faster
than ever. All other items in the Greater Phoenix
Digital Library will continue to have a 21 day
checkout period.
