ATN Book Lists Very comprehensive collection of recommended book lists for kids and teens. Check the library catalog to see if we own books on these lists.

Book Adventure Free reading motivation program for children in grades K-8. Children create their own book lists from over 5,400 recommended titles, take multiple choice quizzes on the books they've read offline, and earn points and prizes for their literary successes.

Bookhive Booklists in lots of different subject areas. There is also a Harry Potter Trivia game, coloring pages, and more.

Children's Picturebook Database This academic website which gives teachers, librarians, parents, and students a place for designing literature-based thematic units for all subjects .

Free to Read List of literacy programs in Arizona. Includes literacy for adults and children.

Kids Reads Great site for avid readers. Includes book reviews and previews, information about series books, games and trivia.

Miscositas.com Developed for both students and teachers, this multicultural site contains a collection of picture books in English, French and Spanish.

Scholastic Kids’ Books Wonderful for kids, parents and teachers. Offers information on books, authors, reading clubs, popular culture, lesson plans, curriculum tips and much more.

TumbleReadables is an online collection of read-along titles for elementary, middle school, and high school students which features adjustable online text and complete audio narration. Sentences are highlited as they are being read and the pages turn automatically. The collection features chapter books, early readers, YA/Teen Novels, high interest/low level books for both middle school and high school students, plus classics of American and English literature.

Book Awards

Caldecott Award The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. Coretta Scott King Award This annual award encourages artistic expression of the African American experience.

Grand Canyon Reader Award (Intermediate) Every year children in Arizona give an award to a recently published picture book, chapter book and a middle school/YA book. Check out this link to see current nominees and past year’s winners.

Newbery Award The Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. Here is a printable version of the winners' list (PDF, Adobe Acrobat Reader required).

Pura Belpré Award This award is "presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth."

Orbis Pictus Award The National Council of Teachers of English established the Orbis Pictus Award to promote and recognize excellence in the writing of nonfiction for children.

Scott O'Dell Award The Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction was established in 1982. The annual award goes to a meritorious book published in the previous year for children or young adults.
